Day Trips from Sorrento: Capri, Pompeii, Napoli

Sorrento is charming, beautiful, and full of life. Days spent wandering cobblestone streets and exploring local shops, lounging at the beach, and enjoying the delicious food are never days wasted. But not only is Sorrento the perfect place to be, it’s the perfect place to call home as you explore the nearby attractions of Capri, Pompeii & Herculaneum, and Napoli.

Capri

A stay in Sorrento is never complete without a day trip to the stunning island of Capri. With the help of our team at Amore Rentals, book a private boat charter to drive from Marina Piccola to Capri! You’ll enjoy breathtaking views and fresh sea breezes on the short boat ride over, then go for a swim in sparkling waters before touring around the cliffs of Capri. If you wish, fulfill your mermaid dreams and paddle into the legendary Blue Grotto to see some of the bluest water in the world! Next, you’ll motor to one of Capri’s marinas to explore the island. With a few hours on Capri, you’ll have time to eat some of the most delicious seafood, visit world-famous shops in the town of Capri, and take the chairlift in Anacapri to the very top of Monte Solaro. Return to your private boat for an afternoon swim and a cruise past the Faraglioni, whilst sipping on complimentary champagne and snacking on Italian favorites! When you arrive back in Sorrento, you won’t even be able to believe what a day you’ve had – straight out of a movie!

Pompeii and Herculaneum

If you remember learning about the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in school, visiting the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum is a must-do when in Sorrento! It’s a great way to learn more about Roman culture and history. Let the team at Amore Rentals plan your day – start with taking the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii in the morning to beat the crowds! In Pompeii, make sure to see the best of the city, from The Forum to The House of the Faun, and take a short walk to the beautiful Villa of the Mysteries. After spending the morning in Pompeii, grab a quick lunch at a local pizzeria before heading back onto the train towards Ercolano. In Ercalano, make your way to the ruins of Herculaneum, which are smaller and more well-preserved due to how the city was buried. The size and maintenance of Herculaneum offer a more intimate look into daily Roman life, so definitely check out the House of the Deer, the thermal baths and their mosaics, and the boathouses. Before getting back onto the Circumvesuviana to head to Sorrento, walk into the townof Ercolano for some delicious gelato!

Napoli

Napoli is a truly vibrant city – it’s full of life, history, delicious food, and culture. When looking for an immersive and authentic experience in Southern Italy, Napoli is the place to go. Whether you want archaelogical sites or baroque churches or pizza from its birthplace, Amore Rentals can help you find what you’re looking for in Napoli. First, take the ferry or a private car to Napoli’s Piazza del Gesu Nuovo to view nearby churches and a cultural hub. Next, walk to the Basilica di Santa Chiara and view the beautiful cloisters, learn about Roman life in Napoli, and enjoy a cappucino at the museum cafe. After walking through Spaccanapoli, stopping to try different street foods and to enjoy the bustle of city life, stop at the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta. This gorgeous baroque-style church is central in Neopolitan history, and a must-see in the city. Now, relax, explore the nearby streets, and try the classic Neopolitan pizza! After enjoying a long luch, make your way across town to see the underground Galleria Borbonica and view the catacombs underneath Napoli. It’s a great way to escape the heat and learn about the role that the underground city played in World War 2! Finally, return to Sorrento for a well-deserved night of relaxation.
